Why attend?
The objective of this workshop is to share ideas with selected architecture faculty about metal buildings and the opportunities to integrate concepts into a Structures Class, Materials and Assembly Class, and Design Studio. You will learn about metal building systems, the many applications that they are used for today and how they can be manipulated to be more expressive. Included is dinner at the Saint Arnold Brewing Company, an example of an innovative metal building application and a tour of a metal building manufacturing plant.

Why should architecture students learn about metal buildings?
MBMA is interested in exposing architecture students to metal buildings as a sustainable construction alternative. Even though metal buildings account for approximately half of all nonresidential low-rise construction in the United States, most architecture students are not introduced to this form of construction as part of their formal education. We have made Lunch & Learn presentations to several architecture firms and have had additional contacts with young architects, and they are finding that they are involved in more and more projects using metal buildings. We think it would be helpful if they are exposed to metal buildings and learn the role of an architect in these projects. As you learn more about the applications that metal buildings are being used for, you will understand the need for an architect who is well versed in the structural systems and provide their creative ideas for a successful project.

What will attendees receive/learn?
We have put together an agenda (below) that will introduce architecture faculty to metal buildings. You will hear from architecture faculty members who have already incorporated metal building concepts as well as practicing architects who will present some metal building case studies. We will provide MBMA literature and publications that would be useful resources.

Is there a cost?
MBMA will be pleased to reimburse you for all of your travel expenses associated with attending this workshop. We anticipate that only one faculty per institution would attend, but we will entertain requests for multiple attendees. The attendance will be limited to the first 30 registrants.

How do you register?
Email us at mbma@mbma.com with your contact information informing us that you would like to register by no later than July 23, 2019.

How do you make flight/hotel reservations?
After we have confirmed your registration for the workshop, we will instruct you to make your flight reservations and submit your travel details to the MBMA Association office for reimbursement. We will also make your hotel reservation for you after we confirm the night(s) you will be needing a sleeping room.
