MBMA Releases New Case Studies on Educational and Government Facilities

The Metal Building Manufacturers Association (MBMA) has published two new case studies, Educational Campus Facilities and Government Facilities. These reports profile 14 educational campuses and 15 government facilities, all of which are metal buildings. Both case studies are available for free and can be downloaded from MBMA’s website at www.mbma.com/Case_Studies.html.

MBMA Adds Four New Members

The Metal Building Manufacturers Association (MBMA) welcomes four new members to its ranks. Terry Building Company joins as a Building Systems member, while Curbs Plus, Inc., FRAMECAD and PrīmX North America join as Associate members.

MBMA Announces New UL Fire-Resistance-Rated Designs for Wall-Roof Joints and Intersections

The Metal Building Manufacturers Association (MBMA) announces six new UL fire-resistance-rated designs for wall-roof joints and intersections in metal buildings. These latest UL head-of-wall assemblies enable common fire-rated wall-roof joints and intersections to meet more stringent energy code requirements while maintaining fire safety. MBMA Student Design Competition Is Now Open

Registration for the Metal Building Manufacturers Association’s (MBMA’s) inaugural Student Design Competition is now open. Offering a total of $15,000 in prizes, this new contest challenges architecture students to create an innovative metal building design for a one- or two-story elementary school. Individual students or teams interested in this exciting opportunity can register at www.mbmaeducation.org until Oct. 1, 2021, with submissions due by Dec. 1, 2021.

MBMA Updates Environmental Product Declarations

The Metal Building Manufacturers Association (MBMA) has released revised environmental product declarations (EPDs) for three metal building product categories: primary rigid framing, secondary framing, and metal cladding for roofs and walls. These resources are valid for five years and are updates to the original MBMA EPDs released in 2016. They are available on the MBMA website at www.mbma.com/Environmental_Product_Declarations.html.

Walter Behlen Added to Metal Construction Hall of Fame

The Metal Building Manufacturers Association (MBMA) is pleased to announce that industry trailblazer Walter “Walt” Behlen has been inducted into the 2021 Metal Construction Hall of Fame. Behlen created the world’s first stressed-skin metal building, established Behlen Manufacturing Co. in Columbus, Nebraska, and his company was a founding member of MBMA.

MBMA Announces 2020 Safety Award Winners

Each year the Metal Building Manufacturers Association (MBMA) honors member companies that demonstrate exceptional performance in maintaining workplace safety. These awards are given to Building Systems members as well as Associate members for their performance during the previous calendar year. Safety awards for the 2020 year were presented during the 2021 MBMA Spring Meeting, held virtually April 28-30.

MBMA Introduces 2021 Student Design Competition

The Metal Building Manufacturers Association (MBMA) is pleased to announce its inaugural collegiate Student Design Competition. The contest is intended to challenge undergraduate and graduate architecture students to create an innovative metal building design for a one- or two-story elementary school to house approximately 200 students. In addition to exploring design options, students are encouraged to learn more about metal buildings as a structural or construction system.
